Expressions & Equations

Create a complex expression that equals 36.  Write about how to solve it using the correct order of operations.

  1. 6(7x2)÷2+(-14)+(2x2x2)
    First, you solve the problems in the parentheses, and it becomes-
    6(14)÷2+(-14)+8
    Next, you complete the multiplication and division from left to right.
    84÷2+(-14)+8
    42+(-14)+8
    And last, you add and subtract from left to right.
    28+8
    36

    First, multiply the numbers with the parentheses
    12y + 18 = 36
    Next, subtract 18 from 36
    12y = 18
    And last, divide 12 from 18
    y = 1 1/2

    first solve what is in the brackets
    5x5y-14=36 Next, do the multiplication.
    25y-14=36 Then add 14 to both sides.
    25y=50 And last you divide both sides by 25.
    y=2
